Gara Bov

   The village of Gara Bov is located in western Bulgaria in Svoge Municipality. It is part of Sofia Province. The name of the village comes from the name of the French knight Count Sen De Beoph.
   The village is situated in the beginning of the most beautiful part of the Iskar Defile. The river Iskar twists and turns in several elbows and enhances the charm of the defile. On the opposite side of the railway station of the village just next to the river a very steep side of the defile is rising,its end consists of some vertical walls(30 to 110 m high). The highest wall which is rising regally is celled Visokia Kamak (The High Stone), the natives residents call it the triangular wall in front of the station. To the left there are the walls of Kumanov Kamak and Tsarnov Kamak. To the right the hollow of Penchova Padina is separating it from the Dalgite Podmoli.
   From the rocky walls you can enjoy a magnificent panorama of the Iskar Defile – a foamy river twists and makes several turns in a row above which the railway line is passing and disappears into the darkness of the tunnels. Down the river on the sky as a background Lakatnishki Rocks and several peaks are rising.
   This region is well known for its conditions for alpinism. The geological texture of the rocks is limestone, it gives the opportunity for tracing many training and educational tours. In the last few years this area became a place for ice climbing. The waterfall Skalia, which is one of the highest in Bulgaria, freezes rarely, but at the expense of that, it offers extremely difficult climbing on ice pendants and columns.
   In addition to the climbing conditions this region offers excellent conditions for fishing and hunting. The village of Gara Bov is well developed and offers all amenities needed for a normal living. It is located only 9 km from the town of Svoge (popular with the chocolate factory) and 45 km away from the centre of the Bulgarian capital city of Sofia.
